Jackson McGovern

Jack's HeadshotGraduating from the Queensland Conservatorium with a Bachelor of Musical Theatre in 2014, Jackson’s stage credits include: Hunter [title of show], Claude (Hair), Jigger (Carousel), Victor (The Wishing Well), The Baker (Into the Woods) and most recently Mark (Rent) and Bobby in American Buffalo (Matilda Award Nomination – Best Supporting Actor). He has also been featured in showcases, revues and concerts, and was invited to perform in an audited masterclass with renowned American musical theatre writer, John Bucchino.

With a passion for new work, Jackson has been dramaturge for a number of cabarets as part of FAST Festival, Short and Sweet Theatre Festival and Cabaret @ The Cremorne, and in 2014 directed a development of Life Goes On, a new musical co-written with Dominic Woodhead. He has originated principal characters in musical and non-musical book developments (Spark – Megan Shorey; Hell and High Water – Matthew Samer; Threads That Bind – Katherine Lyall-Watson), and has featured in lead roles in a number of original short films.

Initially speech and drama-trained, Jackson toured as a lead Shakespearean actor with the Grin & Tonic Theatre Troupe for two years and continues to work throughout Queensland as an adjudicator, drama teacher and freelance writer.
